“My great grandmother was a sales associate at Macy’s Herald Square in the 1950s. At Christmastime, she would take my mom to the store and let her choose a present. My mom still remembers picking out her first pair of ice skates and riding the wooden escalators. Since then, it has been a family tradition to visit Macy’s in NYC during the holidays. Even though I get to visit the store regularly as an employee, it always puts me in the spirit to see the big Believe sign and the beautiful holiday décor all over the store.”

“My favorite thing about Macy’s at Christmastime is the Believe campaign! Every kid deserves to feel an extra bit of magic around the holiday season and from the “Yes, Virginia” animation to the National Believe Day partnership with Make-A-Wish foundation, it’s a great feeling to be part of a company contributing to the magic.”

“I love all the window displays and walking through the first floor of Macy’s Herald Square to see all the decorations. It really brings a lot of Christmas spirit!”

“My family tradition that officially kicks off the Christmas season is our visit to Macy’s Santaland. I began bringing my daughter when she was one, and that was six years ago. Seeing her face light up talking to the elves and the jolly old fella himself brings me so much joy. I hope she always believes! Afterwards, we take a stroll down Holiday Lane picking out ornaments, and end with some hot cocoa from Godiva.”

“There are so many wonderful things about Macy’s at Christmas that choosing a favorite is hard to do! However, there is one very special memory and tradition I’ve had since 2010. I had gone to Herald Square’s Holiday Lane to admire the train outside the Station Master’s house and to enjoy Santa’s elves, who tend to laugh and break into Christmas carols spontaneously. It was there I saw a woman standing with wire-rimmed glasses, old-fashioned dress, and bonnet among the elves – it turned out to be Mrs. Claus. She was so very delightful and good humored, with plenty of stories about what it’s like at the North Pole living with all those crazy elves. She really made me laugh. And so now, each year, I am sure to seek her out and wish her a Merry Christmas!”

“My favorite thing about Macy’s at Christmastime is helping grant the wishes of Make-A-Wish children through the Macy’s Believe campaign.”
