As soon as Daylight Savings Time hits, my brain flips a switch and it’s time to Spring clean my life. That could mean anything from a little zhooshing (Google it … one word a million different spellings!) to a full overhaul, but refreshing my fragrance is always part of the process. Thank goodness our Scent Event also happens to coincide with my annual life makeover. From a fragrance so fresh and bright it smells like Spring bottled to an intoxicating smoky elixir, this time around I’m more excited than ever about my finds! There’s even body oil infused with a cult classic floriental fragrance in the mix, so take a peek at my top 10 fave Spring scents and maybe you’ll discover a new love of your own. xx
Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Dry Body Oil – Maybe the most exciting thing I’ve stumbled upon ever! I love dry body oil, but Flowebomb Dry Body Oil – beyond! In case you don’t know, this is the cult classic floriental I mentioned earlier, and if you haven’t tried it before you really should. It’s not actually a full on floral either. As the designers explained in our Q&A, the scent was created around a word they invented – Flowerbomb – that represents romanticism, edge and ultimately symbolizes the power of transformation.
Carven L’eau de Toilette – With notes like Italian lemon, sweet pea, peony and hyacinth, this fragrance is the closest thing I’ve found to Spring in a bottle. It’s fresh, bright, and has a clean finish that hooked me at first spritz! And by clean, I mean crisp soapy clean, not powdery cotton clean. I love, love, love it!
Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris – Known as a brilliant fashion designer, I was both excited and intrigued by the thought of Catherine Malandrino launching a fragrance. Luckily her impeccable taste also carries over to scent! Style de Paris (the actual name of the scent, although I can’t seem to find anywhere but in copy…) is a beautiful blend of sparkling red grapefruit, Italian mandarin and Nashi pear layered with orange blossom, violet, ocean breeze accord (it’s real!) and patchouli. Said to be inspired by the elegance of Paris and the energy of New York, it only makes sense I’d come to love a fragrance that brings together my two favorite cities in one bottle.
Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey City Blossom – Designed to capture the moment a flower blossom first appears in the city, this limited edition builds on the original L’Eau d’Issey, giving it a fresh twist for Spring. Pink pepper and bright lemon bring a zest to the scent that I’ve been craving after this long winter, while a bouquet of magnolia adds just enough sweetness. The only other thing I can tell you is that I’ve received plenty of compliments every time I’ve worn it #happydance.
LAVANILA Vanilla Coconut – In comparison to the other complex scents I’ve been drawn to, Vanilla Coconut may seem a little out of place. All I can say is, you love what you love, and this girl hasn’t met a ‘true’ coconut scent yet that hasn’t captured my heart. Also, it won’t come as a total shock that the fragrance has a twist. The addition of tiare flower, sandalwood and heliotrope transform it into an Oriental Vanilla and give it just enough edge to make me crave wearing it (versus craving a coconut macaroon, which has happened in the past!).
Michael Kors White – This is another limited addition that’s so pretty, and so surprising for someone that doesn’t normally fall for a true white flower scent. The difference here, or maybe the similarity between my other faves is that it has an undeniable cleanness to it, a purity I don’t find in a lot of fragrances. It smells like a bouquet of fresh flowers I’d want on display in my home, and I can totally get behind wearing a scent like that!
Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca – I’ve touched on Guerlain’s gorge Aqua Allegoria fragrances in the past, but now is the absolute perfect time to wear them or keep them on display (both options make me really happy!). Is that bottle not the most beautiful thing?!?! I love each of the scents in this collection for different reasons, but Herba Fresca is the one that surprised me the most. It’s very green, with pure and vibrant notes of fresh grass, mint, lemon and green tea. It’s also said to promote a feeling of well being, so bonus!
Tory Burch – Another fashion designer making her fragrance debut, the Tory Burch scent is exactly what I hoped it would be! It’s fresh, refined and classic but still has a signature Tory twist and attention to detail that makes it stand out, like the use of currant buds and leaves in the top notes or the addition of carrot seed and sweet alyssum in the heart. Trust me when I say if you love her design aesthetic, you’ll love this scent. In fact, I think it’s the fragrance equivalent of the impeccable tunics that launched her career, just sayin’. And the fragranced soaps, don’t even get me started…
Elizabeth Arden Untold Eau Fraiche – My favorite Untold scent to date, Elizabeth Arden has given their youthful fragrance a bright, joyful makeover that celebrates the awakening of Spring! Drops of mandarin and juicy pear mix with lily of the valley, freesia, creamy cashmere wood and vetiver to create a perfume that’s as perfectly uplifting as it is pretty.
Nejma One – If you read the blog, you’ll know I refer to some fragrances as “serious” scents, meaning they have layers, many layers and may seem really intense if you only go on your first sniff. Much like a great wine (or any of us!) that gets better with age, you have to give serious scents time to fully dry down before you can make an type of judgment. The entire Nejma collection is serious, and I mean that in the absolute best way possible! These scents are so beautifully complex and intriguing, sexy, addictive to take a few words from the reviews you’ve written. I’m totally on board! In fact, I was completely shocked that I kept coming back to Nejma 1 again and again. Initially it was spicy, sweet and smoky, like it kind of made me think of someone smoking a pipe or a great night on the beach with a bon fire, but then it changed in such a unique way I’m not sure exactly how to describe it, but I absolutely love it! All I can tell you is that if you’re looking for a true signature scent or you just like a fragrance that’s different and no one could easily place, Nejma is the answer you’ve been looking for.
