With scents like Iced Gingerbread, Christmas Cookie, Melting Marshmallow and Peppermint Stick, it should come as no surprise that I’ve loved and gifted Philosophy’s delectable bath & body sets for as long as I can remember. But it was only last year when I realized most of the writing on those bottles are actual recipes. Since that time I’ve been determined to bring together baking and beauty into one delish post, and I’ve finally done it! I was locked away all week working to not only bring some philosophy faves to life, but to share great recipes, entertaining tips and gift ideas to get your holiday off to a sweetest start!
Inspired by – Philosophy Iced Gingerbread Cookie Duo
Bake it! I consider myself to be a pretty experienced baker, but this was truly my first attempt at tackling gingerbread. I followed the recipe straight from the packaging, and while I had visions of perfectly decorated ginger -men and -minis, the dough was way too sticky so I quickly moved on to Plan B. Using a small cookie scoop, I dropped the dough onto parchment paper, flattened it slightly, and added a sprinkle of sugar just before placing them into the oven. While my “cozy” NYC studio filled with the most amazing smell (and I’m sure tortured my neighbors – oops!), I whipped up the second part of this duo – Sugary Cinnamon Icing. I’m a fan of frosting across the board, and I see this recipe and some cinnamon rolls in my very near future!
Gift it! When it comes to holiday gifting, I think these sets are beyond perfect for those sometimes hard to buy for teachers, co-workers, party hosts, and in NYC doormen, Supers, etc.! I say it every year, stock up on these beauties now so you’ll never have to experience the panic of desperately seeking a last-minute gift.
Now, you could easily wrap this set or simply tie a festive bow, but I like to add a personal touch to any present. Whether well planned out or … not, a little something extra makes any gift feel special. If you’re ambitious, bake a batch in advance and gift them with the duo. Even easier, buy a gingerbread cookie or and use it on the packaging instead of a bow.
Inspired by – Philosophy Melting Marshmallow Trio & Peppermint Stick Shower Gel
Bake it! I’m all about easy and insanely delicious when it comes to spending time in the kitchen, and since these products don’t include a recipe I made a few of my own holiday favorites – 3 step s’more & peppermint dipped marshmallows. They take almost no time and if you can push a button on a microwave and use a spoon, you’re all set on the baking skills (seriously!). The best part of all, the results are beyond impressive and oh so amazingly good! Here’s everything you’ll need:
1 bag of Wilton Chocolate Melts
1 bag of marshmallows
Graham crackers, peppermint sticks, or anything you’d like to use for dipping …Oreo cookies, mini M&Ms, toffee, you get the picture
Sucker, cookie pop, or popsicle sticks (a toothpick can work in a pinch too!)
Step 1 – Prep: Cover a countertop or cookie sheet with parchment paper, place graham crackers and peppermint sticks into baggies, use a rolling pin or meat tenderizer to crush into small pieces and transfer the contents into a small prep bowl for dipping, pour chocolate melts into a microwave safe bowl.
Step 2 – Melt: Place the chocolate melts into the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until completely melted and smooth.
Step 3 – Dip: Dip a marshmallow into the melted chocolate or roll over the surface of the chocolate until fully covered, then immediately dip into either graham cracker crumbs or peppermint pieces. Place on parchment paper and allow chocolate to harden. Enjoy!
Mind-blowingly easy, right?!?!
Gift it! This is perfect for friends, book clubs and secret Santas! Place a few marshmallow pops into a cellophane gift bag, tie with a bow and pair with your favorite Philosophy set. I would put peppermint pops with Peppermint Stick Shower Gel and graham pops (now affectionately named s’more on a stick by my co-workers) with the Melting Marshmallow Set for guaranteed gift bliss!
Inspired by – Philosophy Christmas Cookie Shower Gel
Bake it! Sugar cookies are a holiday essential, so I had to include Christmas Cookie in my entertaining roundup. I used the Philosophy recipe for my first batch, but the dough was still too sticky for shapes, so I made a few modifications. It’s basically the same ingredients, but if you share my obsession for cutout cookies, try this tweaked version of the recipe:
¾ C butter softened
1 C sugar
½ tsp vanilla
2 ½ C flour
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
Cream butter and sugar in a bowl, beat in eggs and vanilla, and slowly mix in dry ingredients. Chill in refrigerator for at least 1 hour. Sprinkle powdered sugar onto parchment paper, then roll and cut out cookies, transfer parchment paper to a cookie sheet, bake at 400 for 6-8 minutes. Once cool, frost and decorate with sprinkles, sparkle and holiday cheer.
Gift it! No surprise here, either bake a batch and box or bag some decorated cookies to deliver along with Christmas Cookie Shower Gel. As an alternative, find a cute cookie cutter or cute apron to include with your present. You could even make it a fun girl’s night of baking and cookie decorating!
Inspired by – Philosophy Holiday Party Martini Duo, Sparkling White Ginger Duo and Holiday Spice Rack
Mix it! Last but not least, what are the holidays without a party!!! Along with plenty of sweet treats to indulge your guests’, Philosophy also has some amazing cocktail sets this season. I’m personally obsessed with the Sparkling White Ginger Duo, both in my shower and as a drink! The scent is so light and refreshing, not to mention the shower gel has the most beautiful iridescent shimmer to it. As a party punch, I’ve never met a champagne cocktail I didn’t like, and this recipe calls for a full bottle of bubbly!
If you’re looking for something more fireside chic, reach for a recipe from the Holiday Spice Rack. Spiced Cinnamon Stick is my fave! It’s hot tea with yummy seasonal spices, a splash of sinfully good sweetened condensed milk and garnished with a cinnamon stick. Both the Vanilla Bean Nutmeg and Creamy Cardamom are frozen delights, think an alternative to frozen hot chocolate. Yum!
Gift it! Of course you can always mix or shake up an Apple Martini or Pomtini from our exclusive Holiday Party Duo, but what a perfect gift. Box it along with a set of cute martini glasses and gift your BFF something that’s 1 part relaxation, 1 part fun! Cheers loves! xx
