The Inside Scoop w/Caprice: Fashion Star Season 2, Episode 1

To really kick things off with Season 2 , this episode was about show stopping design…creating a piece that’s one-of-a-kind and totally scene-stealing! It was the designers’ chance to remind us why they deserve to be in this competition. Needless to say, some of the designers totally nailed it and others truly missed the mark…

Right out the gate, John Varvatos’ team made it clear they meant business. The talent level on that team is fierce!! I ended up buying Brandon’s menswear hoodie jacket combo because the design is perfect for all climates and extremely versatile. I see this as a go-to piece for any guy. I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on Brandon throughout the competition; he is definitely one to watch!

The designs by Nicole’s team were edgy and interesting! I immediately fell in love with both Priscilla’s moonlight romper and Johanna’s tulip dress. For me, Priscilla’s design has just the right mix of fun, fresh and flirty! And Johanna, she definitely made her mark with the quintessential little black dress (seriously, you can never go wrong with a LBD!) She clearly knows what the Macy’s customer wants: The silhouette and fit is perfect for ALL body types!

Overall, I think the designers have raised the bar already this season! Their abilities made it very hard to send any of them home, but we had to made the tough choice to send home Bret!  He took a risk designing women’s wear and it absolutely didn’t pay off! Calculated risks are a MUST in fashion but risk “just because” is a no-no!
