Nothing says “Christmas” like gathering around the kitchen table to roll out, bake up & decorate homemade cookies! That’s why we’re sharing Food Republic’s formerly-top-secret, easy-to-make, cut-out cookie recipe. These sweet little bites of heaven are the perfect treat to have on hand for when company – or Santa himself! – stops by for a visit (not to mention a wonderful holiday activity that kids of all ages can enjoy)…

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Combine sugar and butter in the bowl of a stand mixer and cream at medium-high speed. In a separate bowl, combine eggs and water. Beat on high for 1-2 minutes. Add cream of tartar and baking soda. Mix just to combine, then let sit for 5 minutes. Add butter/sugar mixture.

Add flour, 1 cup at a time. Add enough flour so that the dough no longer sticks to your fingers then transfer to a sheet of parchment, wrap and chill for 2-3 hours.

Once chilled, roll out sections of the dough to ¼-inch thickness on a well-floured work surface and cut with cookie cutters of choice.

Bake at 375 degrees for 8-9 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool completely before decorating.
