As the temps outside continue to drop, we love nothing more than to warm up inside with a hot cup of cocoa! However, contrary to popular belief, cocoa wasn’t always the sweet & creamy treat we indulge in today. Way back in the day, the Mayans started making a beverage called chocolatl. But, sans sugar, chocolatl was pretty far from what we now sip on (hint: it was super bitter!). It was only when chocolate made its way to Europe, that hot cocoa as we know it was born! So, next time winter’s chill is nipping at your nose, warm up old-school European style: With our Ultimate Hot Chocolate recipe!

In a medium saucepan, bring milk, cocoa powder and sugar over medium-

high heat, whisking frequently. Add finely chopped chocolate and whisk until it has melted and the mixture is smooth.

Bring to a simmer and continue whisking until a thin foam has formed. Pour hot chocolate into serving mugs and add garnish (or many!) of choice.
