Matte makeup is having a moment! From lipsticks and shadows to matte-finish topcoats, this season it seems anti-shine is the new “it” factor for beauty. When it comes to shadows, I’m good. Everyone needs a great matte eye palette, but as a self-proclaimed lip gloss junkie it’s taken me awhile to embrace a more powdered down pout. After testing countless colors and formulas, I’m sold! Not that I’ll ever fully give up a cushiony kiss of high-shine gloss, but there’s definitely something to be said for matte lip color that lasts and lasts and lasts. Here, I’ve rounded up six gorgeous options to help get you into the matte mindset too. xx
tarte tartelette Palette – Celebrating 15 years of tarte, the tartelette Palette is filled with 12 all-new matte shadows in neutrals ranging from cream to black. My favorite feature, besides the beautiful color payoff, each shade is named to inspire and empower you to face the day with confidence!
Too Faced Natural Matte Palette – This little beauty transforms the award-winning Natural Eyes Collection into a palette of 9 new matte shades. It’s gorgeous, and I love the fact that the three base colors are larger in size. Since you’ll inevitably use these shades most often and you’ll be applying them over the entire eye (from lash line to brow), it only makes sense!
Urban Decay Naked Basics – I couldn’t talk about matte makeup without including Naked Basics. This little nude number is the stuff of legends! Petite sized but packing a major punch, it holds six shadows so perfect that they started our all-out and ongoing obsession with Urban Decay Naked palettes. It’s definitely a must have! For anyone who prefers taupe or cooler eye colors, give Naked2 Basics a try.
Smashbox Be Legendary & Elizabeth Arden Matte Lipstick – Based solely and unscientifically on my own lip testing, these are my favorite formulas of the moment. They almost magically deliver full-coverage, creamy color with a finish that looks matte but feels (dare I say it) smooth and comfortable. Yep, I guess I’m officially a convert! And just to give you a little teaser, M.A.C. has Matte Lipstick launching in the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled and your pout prepped…
Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick – Similar to Urban Decay’s Naked Basics Palette, this liquid lipstick has a cult following like no other. It looks like a lip gloss but paints on seriously pigmented color that will carry you from coffee to cocktails without ever having to reapply! And the shade range – unmatched. Before anyone asks, I’m sorry, but I don’t have a secret stockpile of Pure Hollywood. Believe me, I wish I did! If you’re looking for something brighter, I’m personally obsessed with Carina and Party Pink and cannot wait to try Unicorn (Yes, u-n-i-c-o-r-n! I love it already!) and Craft, two new shades that just launched today. If they’re already sold out, forgive me … Like I said, this product has a cult following like no other!
