Everyone knows it’s not a Kentucky Derby party without a mint julep. In fact, a half-ton of mint is used each year at Churchill Downs to make this famous drink! So in the spirit of it all, we’re taking this bourbon classic up a notch. See below for Macy’s Culinary Council Chef Michelle Bernstein’s cocktail recipe. Make sure you’re fully stocked with ingredients and do the prep ahead of time—your guests will be grabbing these tasty drinks from your bar cart quicker than you can make them! And we’re off…

Trust us, you don’t need to be a fancy bartender to make this Strawberry Rhubarb Mint Julep. We just love that Chef Michelle Bernstein uses sweet and tart flavors to offset the strong taste of bourbon and how it all perfectly complements the fresh mint to create something truly refreshing. Feeling adventurous? Other great flavor combos would be lemon-blueberry or raspberry-lime!

TIP · If you’re having kids at your party, just leave out the bourbon and blend the strained mixture with ice to make them a non-alcoholic frozen treat.
