WHITE TIE

The most formal of them all, is the “white tie” dress code. Think a sweeping floor-length evening gown paired with your finest jewelry and a super chic clutch & shoes.

BLACK TIE

When you’re invited to a “black tie” wedding, you can usually assume that it’s an evening event. This is the next most formal dress code after the white tie. Opt for a floor-length gown or even a short yet dressy cocktail dress and elevate your look with your accessories.

BLACK TIE OPTIONAL,
FORMAL ATTIRE

It says it all in the name. A “black tie optional” event is still dressy but not as strict—you have the option to wear a formal evening gown or a short cocktail dress without anyone batting an eye.

SEMIFORMAL,
DRESSY CASUAL

The best way to determine how “dressy” or how “casual” you should dress, take cues from the time of the event. For an evening wedding, wear darker, more formal colors, and for a daytime event, opt for light colors and fabrics—whether it’s a cocktail dress or a dressy skirt and top.
