Beauty Lesson: How To Do Ombré Lips in Three Easy Steps

Most of us tried the much buzzed about ombré hair trend a few years ago (thanks, Jessica Biel). And whether you loved your new highlights or couldn’t wait to grow them out, it’s time to give gradient beauty another go. And luckily, this time around it’s a much less permanent way to play with color: ombré lips. The hot new lip technique blends two colors from dark to light and pretty much makes anyone look like a professional makeup artist. And did we mention that we just happen to know how to nail the look in three easy steps?!

To get started all you need is a dark lip pencil (you can use a lipstick, but liner is always easiest) and a lipstick in the same color family, but a shade or two lighter. Seriously, that’s it! We’re using Urban Decay Vice Lip Pencil in the deep brick red, Blackmail, and Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in the medium-dark berry pink, Afterdark.

Step 1: Carefully trace the outside of your lips with your dark lip pencil and fill in the outer half only. Line just slightly outside your lips for a fuller look.

Step 2: Apply the lighter lipstick to the center of your lips.

Step 3: Press lips together or use a lip brush to lightly blend the colors. Finish with a dab of highlighter in the center of your lips to enhance the look. Voila!

Pretty easy, huh? Get started on creating your ombré lip look by shopping all our lip essentials. Plus, learn how to match your lip look to your mood.
